Unfortunately the Roundabout has now been discontinued so i recommend that you take a look at the Britax Allegiance another Britax convertible seat from the current range.

The Britax Roundabout 55 is a convertible type of car seat. The seat is designed to be used in the rear facing position for a child weighing between 5 and 40 pounds. In the front facing position the seat can safely accommodate a child above 1 year weighing from 20 to 55 pounds and up to 46 inches in height.

The seat incorporates Britax own SafeCellTM technology, which is comprised of cells built into the seat that compress in the event of an accident and thereby reduce the forces acting on your child to propel them forward from the seat. Steel bars also increase the ridgidity of the seat offering more protection and preventing it from flexing. An energy absorbing versa-tether attachment also serves to slow down forward movement of the seat by releasing in stages rather than all at once to act as a brake on forward motion.

The Britax Roundabout 55 also features Side Impact Protection which relies upon the rigid shell of the seat and deep padded side walls to work effectively. This provides protection for your child’s head and body by distributing crash forces away from your child during an accident.
The 5–point harness that the seat uses is a tangle-free type that prevents twisting during use.

This harness is fully adjustable so that you can get your child seated comfortably with the minimum amount of fuss.

The seat is certified as suitable for use during airline travel and comes from Britax with a 1 year limited warranty.

There is an Infant Positioning Insert available for this model but this is only available by ordering separately and does not come included.

Britax USA, the manufacturer, offers a 1 year limited warranty and the Roundabout is also certified as suitable for use during airline travel.

The covers come in several attractive designs including, Gumdrop, Isabella and Silverlake and can be removed for cleaning by carefully following the manufacturer’s instructions.

Review Summary

Most parents who bought the Roundabout 55 really liked it. The main comments were that it is well-made, with a good amount of cushioning and is also easy to install.

A number of parents also said that the seat installs well in smaller cars taking up less space than several others they had tried.

There were a few negative comments such as the difficulties some parents had when adjusting the harness straps, as they need to be rethreaded each time. A few parents also said that they were having problems with the straps getting twisted.

We rated the Roundabout as a recommended buy because parents who bought it rated it so highly.  Be aware that if purchasing for a young infant weighing from 5-12 lbs you may need to factor in the extra cost of the Infant Positioning Insert supplied by Britax USA if you need it.
